DAY 24

Austin to Cold Springs
The beautiful Nevada scenery continues, more basin terrain, some of it through an especially beautiful golden canyon with huge rock formations almost hanging over the road, quite intimidating.

Ada has lost a little confidence from yesterday, today she dropped her drink bottle while riding twice (nearly into Luke's path, nearly falling herself. Luke likens her to a flighty mare at the barriers). Maybe it's down to bad luck, which could possibly be put down to the hawaiian shirt Luke bought in Ely, which has brought nothing but losing bets, flat tyres, muscle cramp, accidents and more near accidents since its purchase. To top it off, we kid you not, Ada nearly burned the cabin down in Cold Springs when the cooking stove she was using inside started inexplicably spewing burning alcohol all over the bed/carpet/bathroom. We were able to laugh about it all about a minute later.
Sidenote: this is U.S army territory. Today we saw a missile in a Jeep, and a cycle tourist we bumped into said the soldiers told him they were watching him riding along via satellite, just for something to do. I guess they probably witnessed all our bad luck from the best seats in the house too...
